I saw a de-stash ad on Ravelry for a nostepinne. I decided to succumb and purchased it for $10. It is much larger than I thought it was going to be.
You might be thinking to yourself right about now - what the heck is a nostepinne?
Well, it is a hand winder for yarn to corral it into a nice neat ball for knitting or weaving or any other fiber craft that you can think of. Most yarn comes in a skein - where you use a niddy noddy.
Skeins of yarn are hard to keep tidy so winding the skein into a center pull ball is much easier. The main tools for that is a swift and a hand crank ball winder. Here are mine.
This nostepinne is for travel and has been used for hundreds of years before that nifty hand crank thing.
Here is a video by New Voyager who distributes Kromski equipment showing the how to on winding a ball of yarn on a nostepinne.
