Chilly Chicago

I'm not sure why I always seem to get called back to Chicago in January.  This time was for a file review that lasted about 90 minutes.  Since I had some other things to accomplished while I was there, I ended working 2 days with 2 days for travel.

I checked into The Tremont hotel which has been upgraded some but still has single pane windows.  It is part of the Starwood group and I got a room with 2 outside walls at the end of the hall.  With the heater set at 78 degrees, the room temperature never made it above 62 degrees with cold air constantly moving in.  I had to wrap myself in more clothes to sleep.

This was the view the next morning.
It warmed up a bit with the sun out by the afternoon but it was cold.  After checking the status of the heater, they kindly switched my room to one outside wall and it was much warmer.

I went to the Uniqlo store on Michigan Avenue and bought some warmies - t-shirts and leggings.
I stopped by and had soup for dinner at Food Life where it was refillable bowls of their entire selection.  Chicken noodle and clam chowder warmed the insides.
Complimentary breakfast at Mike Dikta's restaurant with hot tea every morning.
Snow and more snow and cold and more cold.
Saw this patrols - poor horses.
Made it out before the big blizzard hit.  It was touch and go as the snow kept piling up.  Deicing happened before take off, but glad to be back home where it is warm.

Brr! It's Cold

It has been cooler and wetter than usual here and I finally broke down and turned the heat on.  I never have the heat on at night as I have my down comforter and quilts.  So poor Bailey with his thin skin and short coat has been cold at night.

I pulled out a small down blanket for him and covered him in his bed.  He has been happy as a clam.
I also pulled out of the pantry my hot water bottle project.  This is some handspun yarn from my first fiber club.  The color way is called sugar coma.  Here is the progress with the water bottle.
I'm now at the neck of the bottle with the ribbing.  This should be done soon and put to use this winter.

Baby, It's Cold!

Alright I'm going to sound like a whiner as a native Californian and calling San Diego home, but man we have had a cold front come in.

Although there is no snow or even clouds in the sky - during the day I look at bright sunny days with high temperatures in the 60s, but man the nights have been frigid!

It has even gotten down into the 40s which is arctic here.  The heater is on, the shades are drawn, multiple blankets are on the bed and I'm now sleeping with a hat.

Which brings me to night caps - I am currently wearing my alpaca swirl hat which is super soft and not binding.
I seem to recall seeing some olde timey pictures with night caps that are more cone shaped.  I have some qiviut yarn in the deep stash and might be perfect for another night cap.  Off to research...
