I had the gang over for dinner to celebrate independence day and also to get together and catch up.
I prepared Momofuku's Bo Ssam and the Peppered Flank Steak and Salsa.
It was adventure to try to find bone-in pork butt but I was finally successful at the business Costco. I had to hunt up a worker to dig them out of the back.
I used up an entire container of salt to mix with the sugar.
Which I then rubbed all over the butt.
Into the fridge overnight and it baked for over 6 hours until it was really falling off the bone.
The peppered steak was also a successful dish.
Mixed with the tomato salsa added a nice flavor.
The meal also included bruschetta.
And a tofu salad. Jon brought the sauces and bibb lettuce for the Bo Ssam and it was all delicious.
After a leisurely dinner, we then meandered our way to dessert. Jo made her tapioca, Karen brought homemade flan with whipped cream, Yaling had the healthy alternative of watermelon, and Grace brought a chocolate bundt cake from Corner Bakery which was served with vanilla ice cream.
Great dinner and great friends. A wonderful way to celebrate independence day.
