San Diego Poke Co

I had to make a trip to the dentist and finished around lunch time.  I did a google search for close lunch places and found this one.
It is in a little strip mall with limited parking.  I ordered a medium bowl.
Avocado was an extra charge but not the krab salad.  Cucumbers were not marinated.  Price-wise, there are other places with better deals.

Colorado Visit

I went out to visit Val in Colorado for a short trip.  It was much cooler there and it actually snowed while I was there and on the way home.
The plane had to be de-iced before take off.

When Val picked me up we went to Bonefish Grill for lunch where Bob met up with us.  The lunch specials were good.
Potstickers to start.
Bang bang shrimp tacos with clam chowder to warm me up.
Timmy missed me a lot and Aidan warmed up after a while.
I slept downstairs this time and Timmy was able to jump up and open the bedroom door so I had to end up locking it.

I worked on my quilt and finally pieced the center together with Sandy's help.
Val is working on the extension pieces at it needs curves.  Aidan decided to add his help.
Susie finished a quilt for her friend which used up her old baby clothes.  It was so awesome.

Ototo Sushi

Yaling and I our favorite local spot for sushi and salad.  Can't beat Ototo Sushi for friendly service and good food and the right price.  So glad this place is close by.

Sushi for me and salad for Yaling plus the faux tomato dish made of fish.

Bailey's Baby

While I have been gone, Bailey is visiting the fun house where there are a ton of dogs.  I was told that he has a supervisor named Dough Dough who prevents him from going outside the line and eating stuff he is not suppose to.  He is even told where to sleep.

However, Yaling is also sitting another dog that Bailey loves.
Bailey just hangs around and follows this girl and licks her all over.  I haven't seen it in action, but Yaling tells me that it is love at first sight.

Cabi Party

I was invited to a Cabi party by Karen.  I had never shopped a clothing party before so it was something new and I knew that the food would be fabulous.  I gathered up my peeps and we headed over the a cute cottage in La Jolla for a fashion show.

The food layout was almost too pretty to eat.
It was a fun time with lots of women trying on different outfits.  The fashion is based on a collection and I did find a sweater to buy.  I'm now on the mailing list for the sample sale.

San Diego and Las Vegas Field Work

I was finally lucky enough to work in my own backyard.  My boss came out for my file review and as luck would have it, my co-worker also came out and provided a second body as well as a food partner.

I drove up and down the coast looking for people and it was mostly successful in that most of my people are still alive and well.

Beautiful scenery at La Jolla Cove where I also bought a tie-dye tank top.
I also got a great view of the bay from Point Loma.
I hosted food at Bistro Kaz, Blaze Pizza, Tom Ham's Lighthouse, and the Thai Burger Company as well as a stop to 85 C Bakery.  Good times and good food.  I still have more work in San Diego so hopefully he will come back and help me again.

I then left for Las Vegas for some follow up searches and meetings around town.  Positive time as it allowed me to meet up and hang with some of the local agents.  I also stayed with Andrea and it was a big night to meet and adopt a new baby.

He was a bit crazy and skittish upon arrival but after the foster people left, he settled down after we ate dinner and was comfortable in Andrea's lap after a hard and stressful day.  She named him Porter.

Block of the Week Progress - Weeks 9 and 10

I'm caught up again with weeks 9 and 10.  I'm really liking the color combination even though it is kink of loud.
Week 9 - wedding ring
Week 10 - butterfly crossing

New cotton yarn in rainbows.
It will be great with a white warp and tons of rainbow for weft.  Can't wait for an empty loom to start this up.

Thai Burger Company

A new place in the neighborhood is Thai Burger Company.  I guess it started as a food truck and now has a little shop.
There is no seating inside as there is only a standing area in front of a counter to order.  The selection is limited as well, but you have 4 types of "burgers" and appetizers, plus drinks.
The burgers have sticky rice for bread and even though delicious, they are very filling.  We ordered one of each of the burgers except for the vegetarian one.  Chicken, pork, and beef are the size of a regular burger.  I found the beef one the best tasting.  The chicken has a curry flavor and the pork is spicy.
There are also ball skewers which come 4 to a skewer as well as potstickers and fried tofu.  All were good.

Then there are the drinks of thai tea, coffee with or without boba.  A combo for $11.00 has a skewer, a burger, and a drink and for another $2 you can get an upgraded drink with boba.

Yamadaya Ramen

Yaling and I went and had ramen at Yamadaya Ramen which is next door to Little Fat Sheep Hotpot.  It is a funky place with a patio area inside the restaurant and since the weather was nice, we sat out on the patio.

There is a huge board on the wall describing the ramen both preparation.
Lot of items to choose from on the one page menu.
We ordered the takoyaki balls which are octopus balls which were a bit chewy but very tasty.
We also ordered a salad to share.
Yaling ordered ramen.
And I had the spicy tuna bowl.
Too much to eat so to go boxes arrived.  The ramen broth is very thick and rich. Great new place to have ramen.

Thick Crust Pizza

Andrea blew into town for a lunch date and we hit pizza as it fills all needs.  Pieology now has thick crust pizza so I had to try it out.
It was tasty but I think I will stick to the thin crust.  The ratio of dough to toppings is not quite on parity.  The think crust is an extra dollar.

Lunch with the Gang

It has been quite a while since Grace, Yaling, and I went out for lunch.  We hit RakiRaki for some ramen.  I tried out the oxtail ramen which was pretty good except for the bamboo shoots which ended up in Yaling's bowl.
It was enough for another meal so I got a to go container.  The only issue was the tenderness of the largest piece of oxtail as it was not cooked enough and was pretty tough.  I had the last piece at home for dinner using a knife to cut out the meat.  Bailey got a good extra snack for dinner.

Afterwards, we went to Caffe Bene for dessert and Grace still had enough room for a ice cream waffle.
I made do with some strawberry ice cream.  We hung around for a while and caught up.

Dragon Quilt Progress

I also made progress on my dragon quilt.  I added the 2" border on the sides of the quilt to frame it.  I had to make a few adjustments and cut off some excess after the attachment but it makes a nice border.
It is always a challenge for me to sew when the quilt gets large.

Next up is also a new technique.  I'm going to cut the dragon border and sew it on all along the edges and then miter the corners to it will look like a continuous border.  I had to look up a few youtube videos and there are many of varying quality.
It will also be challenging to cut out the border and cross my fingers that there is enough fabric.  To make sure that the lines are even, I'm going to cut in a single line moving the fabric across.  The fabric comes with two borders separated by the colored squares on a black background.  I might be able to salvage that part for something else.

Block of the Month - February

After some thought and planning, I figured out how to finish the block of the month for February.  I had to label the triangles to get it right and even then, I had to un-sew a bit to finish.

The last of the February blocks dealt with the same look but in different angles. One solid block.
And two side of the same block.
The triangles will be connected to other pieces so they lay at an angle.  On to the March blocks next.

Block of the Week Progress

I continue my progress on the block of the week.  There was a little glitch in the updating on the web page that I had bookmarked so I missed last week's post.  I did a google search on the sewcial quilt and found the links to both last week and this week.
This one didn't get the frame.
This one was super easy.
