I joined a club sponsored by Twisted, a Portland Oregon yarn store. I got a kick out of the club name - Socks are for Suckers Shawlette Club. I just learned how to knit socks and have never been part of a sock club of which there are many.
I do love knitting shawls and saw that for a year, 6 deliveries were scheduled with the yarn and a pattern from a few "famous" designers. I also noted that some of the skeins were also from popular suppliers that I have never before knit with.
Even though the club started earlier in the year, I was able to join and received the prior months kits. The first kit contained Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Lightweight in the color way Kelped.
It is not my favorite color combination but I have never knit with this yarn which some knitters are absolutely crazy about. I recall the first Maryland Sheep and Wool festival where the line to purchase this yarn ran the length of the barn.
The pattern that came with the skein is called Crinkled Corrugation by Shannon Squire. It is a fairly easy knit with mostly knit stitches, a few purl stitch rows, some yarn overs and knit togethers and a cool ruffled edge with a bind off that I have never used called the applied two-stitch I-cord.
The finished knitted shawl is very small.
After washing and blocking aggressively, the shawl is still not very large.
The ruffled edge is pretty.
I used most of the yarn in the skein and while tightly twisted, I don't see the big draw in the cult like following for this yarn. It is very nice, but I would not fight others in waiting in long lines for superwash merino.
Mags I love Twisted in Portland too. I'll be there later this month. :)
