Artisans Angkor - Silk Farm

One of the craftsy stops was to the Artisans Angkor Silk Farm in Siem Reap.  We were able to get a tour of the farm and the first thing we saw were fields of mulberry plants.
We then headed into the worm room.  Live worms being separated and the cocoon baskets.
The moths being segregated for the next crop.
Huge trays for cocoons.
We then headed to the reeling party.
Here is a video I put together on the machinery at work.
The yarn is skein on these ancient home made wheels.
Skeins hanging to dry.
Some dyeing went on and they had a display of natural sources, but the guide stated that everything commercial uses acid dyes.
Weaving of all types were going on.  The guide stated these people came and worked as an apprentice.  The fineness of the yarn was hard to see at times.
Ikat was being tied up as well.
Last we went through the museum portion to see the finished work.

I coveted these skeins but they were not for sale.
There was the same loom that I saw in Phnom Penh.
Samples of ikat weaving.
Strange dress made entirely out of silk in all its forms.
